Frequently Asked Questions
Raising Highly Capable Kids (RHCK) is a parenting resource designed to equip parents and guardians with tools and strategies to help children develop into responsible, caring, and productive adults. The program is based on the 40 Developmental Assets, a research-based framework created by the Search Institute that identifies positive supports and strengths that young people need to succeed.
We welcome parents, guardians, and caregivers of children and adolescents. The Parents First Initiative is designed to be inclusive and support families from diverse backgrounds and communities.
Through the workshop, you’ll learn practical parenting strategies, connect with a kind, supportive community, and gain a better understanding of your child’s growth and development. Participants often say the workshops improve their family communication, their relationships with their children, and their parenting confidence.
Typically there are 10 sessions, each lasting about 90 minutes. Sessions are usually held weekly, but the schedule can vary depending on the hosting organization, holidays, or school breaks.
Each session focuses on different aspects of the 40 Developmental Assets. The 40 Developmental Assets are a set of research-based, positive supports and strengths that young people need to succeed. They are divided into external and internal assets. External assets include support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, and constructive use of time. Internal assets include commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies, and positive identity.
There is no cost to participate. We also frequently provide free childcare, meals, and giveaways.
